Last night, the government announced that it is switching to the delay phase in its fight against the COVID19 pandemic. People with symptoms similar to that of COVID19 should stay at home (self-isolate).

The government has officially initiated the next part of the NHS campaign to hire thousands of nurses and other health professionals. The “We are the NHS” recruitment drive is expected to help recruit 50,000 more nurses as promised in the Conservative manifesto right before the December elections.

In a bid to reduce waiting times, the NHS plans to have nurses trained to conduct surgical procedures. To achieve this proficiency, nurses will have to study for two years to become surgical care practitioners. This way, surgeons will have a bearable workload.

A novel (new) coronavirus capable of causing severe respiratory diseases such as pneumonia was identified in China towards the end of December 2019. The virus is referred to as the 2019-nCoV or Novel Coronavirus.
