Breast Awareness Month at The Flame Lily
October is the international Breast Cancer Awareness month. Its aim is to increase support, awareness, early diagnosis, treatment and palliative care for women with breast cancer. About 1.7 million new breast cancer cases are recorded annually. The disease has an annual death toll of 522,000, with low- and middle-income countries being the worst hit because of lack of awareness, changing reproductive patterns and the adoption of western lifestyles.
In the spirit of standing in solidarity with all the women of the world, we held a fundraiser at our office for breast cancer awareness. Our female staff took a leading role. We decorated the office with pink and dressed in pink attire to impress on our minds and meditate on the significance of this month. Our goal is to fight limited public awareness and a lack of access to affordable diagnosis and treatment early enough.
Early diagnosis is paramount in breast cancer control. Found early, it is possible to get cured if there is adequate treatment. Late detection rules out curative treatment. For late detection cases, treatment may only help alleviate suffering and slow down the progression of the disease. Let us all unite against breast cancer.
